Empowering Young People To Thrive: The Mix 2022-23 Impact Report

Published on May 2024

Over the last 12 months, The Mix have worked tirelessly to build upon our reputation as the UK’s leading digital support service for under 25’s. Our efforts are represented in the 6 million young people we engaged with over the past year – from support services to social media, discussion boards to website content. Our latest impact report highlights our most recent journey to continue championing and supporting young people – no matter who they are, where they come from, or what they’re facing.

In particular, the past year has seen many young people face extraordinary challenges including:

  • Mental health and wellbeing. Around 1 in 5 young people have a probable mental health issue.
  • Loneliness. Under 30s are twice as likely to report feeling lonely compared to over 70s.
  • Cost of living. 1 in 3 young people struggle to pay their bills and 1 in 5 skip meals due to lack of money.

Through all of this, young people have relied on The Mix to build hope, grow resilience, and live their lives to the fullest…

“Charities like The Mix are important as stepping stones as young people get older to learn and grow. Becoming an adult can be a really scary prospect, so having somewhere to go to for support is really helpful”

“After finishing counselling, I can see that life is worth living. I do still struggle with anxiety, but I feel more positive and feel hopeless less frequently”

“I like how the website is always up to date with information and advice about what young people are experiencing”

In the year 2022-23:

  • 4 million young people were more likely to seek support as a result of our social media content.
  • Over 1 million young people felt more able to cope with life’s challenges as a result of our website content.
  • 122,000 young people found relevant resources from our discussion boards.
  • Over 4,600 counselling sessions were delivered to over 1,000 young people, helping them effectively manage their problems on a day-to-day basis.
  • Over 4,000 young people found our Crisis Messenger service helpful.
