Martin Radbourne, offering his expertise through volunteering
My name is Martin Radbourne. I am 27 years old and I’m an accounts assistant from Birmingham.
I studied Psychology at university and really wanted to get in to some form of therapeutic work. I have also studied aspects of Psychotherapy. My goal is to become a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner, something I would really love to do. This is what led me to volunteer at The Mix.
My story with The Mix started in May 2016. In my role as a Digital Connector, I connect with young people who contact The Mix for help or advice. I offer emotional support and look for relevant services that may support them further.
Since I started volunteering, I have a much greater appreciation for the different issues that can affect us all at different times in our lives.
I also feel that my communication skills have improved tremendously. Volunteering has improved my confidence in dealing with challenging situations and taught me about risk assessing and connecting with young people to find out what is going on in their life.
